Silver Lake 2026 Master Plan Survey – City Parks and Recreation officials seek public guidance in key preliminarily step

DOVER, Del. — On April 14, Roger Ridgeway, director of Dover Parks and Recreation, briefed city council and residents on early planning efforts for the future of Silver Lake, the last park slated for renovation under the city’s recent city-wide parks revitalization program.

The planning process remains in preliminary stages, with officials emphasizing that public input will help determine the project’s scope. City action form documents stated “The purpose of the master plan is to establish a long-term vision for Silver Lake Park and identify priority improvements related to recreation amenities, accessibility, environmental considerations, and infrastructure.”

During the meeting, Ridgeway noted that environmental impact will have its weight in the plan but saidit has not been determined whether the Silver Lake master plan will include investments to improve water quality or watershed health. The director once again highlighted that the survey and public input along budget constraints, will play a key role in determining the next era of Dover’s largest park. The city has budgeted $75,000 to contract planners to create a comprehensive plan for Silver Lake.

Kathy Doyle, Chair of the Silver Lake Commission, reminded city officials and residents that big plans had been commissioned before with little action or results to show for it and hopes that the city will take the proposal into account when preparing this recent endeavor.
